What we tell first-time visitors
Hot Springs is small enough that nothing's more than 15 minutes away, but distinct enough that each part of town has its own thing. Bathhouse Row + the National Park downtown is the historic walking core. Oaklawn (4 mi) is the racing + casino destination — bring a jacket for outdoor stretches in winter, dress code is relaxed otherwise. Magic Springs (8 mi) is the family/teen day. The lake itself — right outside the cottages — is the slow morning, the firepit night, and the boat-rental afternoon if you want to get out on the water.
